What are bifidobacteria — and other frequently asked questions

Bifidobacterium encapsulates bacterial species that are normally part of the human intestinal microbiota; Bifidobacteria live in balance with many other bacterial species, such as Lactobacilli. Even though they are native to our organism, the percentage of Bifidobacteria present in an adult intestine is relatively low.

Are bifidobacteria lactic ferments?

The Bifidobacterium genre is classified in the family of Bifidobacteriaceae. Even though they are commonly considered milk bacteria, Bifidobacteria differ in many ways from Lactobacilli, a probiotic species present in yogurt and other fermented foods. Bifidice uses Bifidobacteria with innovative technology that allows them to arrive intact in the intestine, which doesn’t happen to live lactose ferments. The latter do not survive the passage through the gastrointestinal tract.

Where can bifidobacteria be found?

Bifidobacteria are bacteria physiologically found almost exclusively in the fecal microbiota of children, while they are present only in a limited percentage of such variety in the intestinal microbiota in adults. For our physiological fitness, it is then recommended to ingest products that have Bifidobacteria, just like Bifidice. Bifidobacteria, and probiotics in general, are specific microorganisms; to make them more resistant and favor their passage through the gastrointestinal tract in an active form, some producers modify them and develop new strains. Bifidice uses the Bifidobacterium Bifidum N.1 instead; it is this bacterial strain that colonizes our intestinal flora from the first days of our lives. With age and a series of other negative factors, the number of Bifidobacteria diminishes, making reintegration difficult... Unless you take Bifidice!

How are bifidobacteria useful?

Bifidobacteria help digest food, eliminate toxins, synthesize vitamins, model our immune system, and protect us from diseases. This positively influences weight management, mood, food preferences, and stress levels. Therefore, it is important to provide our organism with a daily dose of such beneficial bacteria; Bifidice not only favors the regular functioning of your bacterial ecosystem, but, by also being an ice-cream, it gives taste to your balanced diet!

The difference between probiotics and prebiotics

Prebiotics, contrary to probiotics, are not living organisms. Prebiotics actually represent the probiotics’ nourishment and stimulate their activity in the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics, in order to become stronger, need the prebiotics that are contained, for example, in foods rich in fiber. This is why it is necessary to combine a healthy lifestyle and a correct diet with the consumption of foods rich in probiotics, such as Bifidice.
